WNCT win £93K council grant

9th December 2015

Charity officials have welcomed a grant of almost £100,000 from council chiefs towards vital transport services.

West Norfolk Community Transport (WNCT) has been given £93.000 by the borough council to support its work to provide vital links to people who are unable to access other forms of travel, including the elderly, the disabled and young people.

The service’s manager, Richard Pengelly, said: “We are delighted the borough council has agreed to provide this much needed financial support.

“The council has supported us for a number of years and this support is vital to our survival.

“Our services provide a lifeline for many local people helping them to carry out routine tasks and to avoid isolation and loneliness.

“The council’s decision to provide financial support is great news for the entire community.”

The services run by WNCT include a dial-a-ride, community car programmes and the town flyer that takes people from surrounding villages into Lynn and Swaffham.

Elizabeth Nockolds, the borough council’s cabinet member for culture, heritage and health, said: “West Norfolk is a very rural borough and we recognise that for some it can be very difficult to get to appointments or take part in social activities.

“The service that West Norfolk Community Transport provide is absolutely crucial for some people, who would otherwise be completed isolated or trapped in their own homes.

“We are pleased to be able to continue our support for this much-needed and much-appreciated service which helps to support vulnerable people in our rural communities.”
