NNCT MediRide change to service

21st November 2016

North Norfolk Community Transport has made changes to its popular MediRide service.

The charity is no longer charging an annual membership fee for passengers who only use MediRide. Also, passengers now must pay expenses to the volunteer driver directly in cash at the end of their journey, charged at 45 pence a mile.

MediRide is a community car scheme using volunteer drivers to take patients to medical appointments in their own cars. North Norfolk Community Transport handles the bookings and recruits volunteers for the MediRide scheme, which has been part funded by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities fund.

Passengers can book their journeys as usual by phoning NNCT’s office on 01692 500840. A call back confirms the journey along with an estimate of the mileage, the driver advises the exact mileage and cost on the day of travel.

The usual annual £8 membership fee still applies to people who use the Dial a Ride minibus services operated by North Norfolk Community Transport.  The changes have been made to bring MediRide in to line with the similar Transport Plus car scheme operated by Norfolk County Council.

“These changes will make MediRide easier for us to administer from our office, and simpler for our passengers who may sometimes use us and sometimes use Transport Plus.” said Chief Executive Matt Townsend. “MediRide has grown hugely in popularity over the last few years and I really want to thank all our volunteers who are vital to keeping this service running. Almost all our volunteers have been happy about these changes to how we operate.”
