Bact encourage more users for Loddon

An expanding community transport group, which has received a vote of confidence from users, is urging more people to make use of a recently launched service.

BACT community transport launched its Dial-a-Ride service in the Loddon area earlier this year and those using it say it has become a lifeline.

One such passenger, Audery Sowerby, 93, of Chedgrave, said: “I use the new service to visit a friend. I have never experienced better treatment or help with getting out and about, the service has given me a real opportunity to get out and socialise again.”

However, the service - which has been extended to travel into Beccles - still has the capacity to serve many more local people (as long as passengers are not living on and cannot access an existing bus route).

Beth Adams, BACT’s Dial-a-Ride coordinator, said: “The people using the service are finding it very useful helping them to carry out important task or to socialise. It is helping people without access to other forms of transport to remain independent and avoid isolation.

“However, we have the capacity to help many more local people, and we just want to make them aware we are here to help them.”

The Dial-a-Ride is available to all sections of the community including pensioners, people with disabilities, young people and the rurally isolated. Operating on a pre-booking system, the service helps people to carry out important tasks such as attend medical appointments, go shopping, pay bills, take part in community activities and to visit family and friends. It runs from 9am to 4pm, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The wheelchair accessible service serves Loddon and the surrounding parishes

Including ,Aldeby, Burgh St Peter, Wheatacre, Haddiscoe, Toft Monks, Hales,

Raveningham, Thurlton, Norton Subcourse, Heckingham, Sisland, Chedgrave

and Langley with Hardley.
