How to book:

Provided applicants meet certain qualifying conditions, Kickstart can provide moped and scooter loans across Norfolk, and parts of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
• Norfolk – we cover all of Norfolk.
• Suffolk – we cover north Suffolk only, includes Bury St Edmunds up to Lowestoft but not the Newmarket area; and
• Cambridgeshire – we cover Wisbech, the Fenland and north of (but not including) Cambridge or Huntington; we do not cover Peterborough.

Option 1
Our standard model of operation provides either a 50cc moped or 125cc scooter on loan to jobseekers or workers on low wages in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Anyone eligible to hold a UK driving licence, able to attain insurance and afford the bike contributions, and who has a transport need that cannot be met, or met more economically, by other means, can have a loan. However, we do tailor our offer more to what we feel an individual needs and can afford rather than what they want. Loans are normally for a minimum period of 10 weeks.

Loans will only start once Jobcentre Plus offices, work programme providers or employers have confirmed job offer details.

Where funding is available, Kickstart will pay for Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), together with a safety helmet, jacket, gloves, lock, wet weather suit. If funding is not available, the rider will have to pay these set up costs prior to delivery of the vehicle. Each rider will pay £35 per week to Kickstart for the 50cc model or £45 for the 125cc variant, the first instalment to be paid prior to delivery and future payments are to be paid weekly or monthly in advance. The contributions include the insurance cost of the vehicle, emergency breakdown cover and continuing Kickstart support.

Having hired a moped or scooter for 6 month or more, and subject to availability, riders could seek to purchase a second-hand vehicle from our fleet (possibly the one they have been hiring) for a one-off payment. For those riders living in Norfolk, the Norfolk Credit Union may be able to provide a loan for the purchase.

Option 2 (Norfolk only)
Take out a moped loan (if approved by Norfolk County Council) to get them to their place of education or help them make the transition from care to independent living. In these cases, Norfolk County Council pays most of the weekly loan contributions with individuals paying up to £7.54 per week contribution. Kickstart provides support as in option 1 above.

You will need to allow between 1 and 3+ weeks from application to the issue of a moped.
Feel free to contact Kickstart weekdays between 9am and 5pm on 01362 699923 or by email enquiries@kickstartmopeds.co.uk

The first step to this is filling in an Application Form, Once received, we will call you to discuss your circumstances - but you will need to have at least a provisional driving licence.
